So, I ended 2006 really badly in terms of reading. Starting over.

The Gun Seller, by Hugh Laurie. 368 pages.

I ADORED THIS BOOK. I'm not used to thrillers, so it was a little hard to keep track of who everyone was at times (and who they were working for), but it made me laugh out loud multiple times and I love Hugh Laurie so much omg.

Lost Girls, by Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie. 264 pages.

A beautifully done three-volume graphic novel. It depicts Alice (in Wonderland), Wendy (of Peter Pan), and Dorothy (of Wizard of Oz) coming together in their later years and telling tales of their sexual awakenings. It's wonderfully done and absolutely beautiful.

And, okay, yeah, it's sort of porn. :D

The Penelopiad, by Margaret Atwood. 192 pages.

The story of Odysseus, told from Penelope's point of view. If you love Greek mythology like I do, this is the book for you. :)

Geek Love, by Katherine Dunn. 368 pages.

Absolutely BRILLIANT novel about a family of circus freaks. And I believe the author went to Reed at some point! Highly highly highly recommended.

Queen of the Oddballs, by Hillary Carlip. 268 pages.

"We can't make someone into our soul mate. If we could, it would have nothing to do with our souls. And maybe the person we think is 'the one' [...] is just one of the destinations and gifts along the way that ultimately lead us to solving the mystery."

This book was wonderful, adorable, and very heartwarming and sweet.

Read this...last week, I believe. It's one of my favorite books EVER EVER EVER and you NEED to read it or your life will not be complete.

Gnah. So good.

Angels & Visitations, by Neil Gaiman. 166 pages.

A collection of short stories by Neil Gaiman, no longer in print. I found a first edition on eBay for $10, so...yeah. I love Neil so much. "Murder Mysteries" is probably my favorite short story of all time.

An Invisible Sign Of My Own, by Aimee Bender. 256 pages.

Breathtaking, incredible, stunning.

Please read it.

It's definitely the best new book I've read so far this year, if not one of my favorites of all time.
